I thought I would share the project I plan to work on.

I am making this quilt

With my Candy Kisses Jelly Roll. I thought I had a picture of the fabric all nice and neat, but I can’t find it. I already have my strips separated and ready to cut so I will share a few pics of that…boring I know.

This will be the back

and this will be the binding

Sorry for such bad pictures. I got the strips all separated and paired just the way I want them and have them ready for cutting. I didn’t want to mess the order up :)

Scrappy Rainbow Block

After making several blocks and going back and forth, I decided on my block for the Round Robin block exchange.

Most of the quilts I make tend to gravitate towards the girly look. This is great for me, but I live in a house of 5 and I am the only girl :) I would like this quilt to be colorful and fun.
My inspiration came from here and here.
I hope everyone has fun making my blocks, that was my ultimate goal :)
I used 4 inch colored squares. The rectangles between the squares is Kona white 2.5 x 4 inches. The sashing is 2.5 x 15.5 inches.
When I receive all of my blocks I will connect them together with 2.5 inch white sashing. I think it will make a wonderful and fun quilt!

Simple Woman’s Daybook

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... It is blah and gray :(
I am thinking... I need to change my eating habits.
I am thankful for... The kids have a 3 day weekend.
From the kitchen... German Chocolate cake left over from Kyle’s Birthday :)
I am wearing... My old gray sweatshirt and bright pink polka dot pj bottoms.
I am creating... Several things, but top on the priority list are Navy Blue Wonky Stars for my hubby’s birthday quilt.
I am going... I don’t have plans to go anywhere today.
I am reading... The Bible in 90 Days
I am hoping... The sun will shine soon :)
I am hearing... The kids playing games in the background.
Around the house... There is plenty of laundry that needs done today.
One of my favorite things... My 2 new quilting rulers.

A few plans for the rest of the week:

  • To produce several blocks for hubby’s quilt.
  • Get the house cleaned and laundry done.
  • To reorganize my household binder.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing... My 17 year old son.DSC_0735

I’m really going to hate unrolling this beauty! The colors are so pretty :)

DSC_0698

I ordered this from the Fat Quarter Shop Late Wednesday night and it was on my doorstep Friday morning at 6:30 am. I couldn’t believe how fast it arrived!

I know just what I am doing with this fabric too…can’t wait to get started, of course I have a few things to finish up first!

Round Robin Block & Friday Night Sew In…

This is what I was suppose to do last night during the Friday Night Sew In, but I for some reason I just couldn’t get myself motivated to do it. Instead I spent the evening on the couch with my wonderful family :) So today I decided I would get 1 block finished no matter what. Here it is…

There will be more to follow :)

Friday Night Sew In

I have my fabric out, and my iron turned on…I am going to work on my Round Robin blocks this evening. I was hoping to pin and quilt my Neptune Scruffy, but I am feeling a little under the weather today so I decided to keep it simple. I am going to make at least 2 Wonky Stars, but hope to get 4 done. What is everyone else working on?

UGGG…

Looking for inspiration today. Can’t find it :(

Building Blocks

I joined a Quilting Bee and needed to come up with an idea for my quilt I want the ladies to make for me. My month is February and I need to be getting things ready so I can mail the packages out the last week of January. I am really excited about this Bee. I already made and sent Donna’s block (she was January). I thought it might be fun to take you on the journey of deciding on my block :)

First you need inspiration…

I knew the minute I saw these that this is what I wanted to do.

I collect crosses and have them all over my house…

Those are just the ones I have have out…there are several more that I haven’t found a place for since the move.

Can you see why I am choosing to have the GIRLS make me cross blocks???

So now the hard part…I need to decide on fabric and make a test block to see how much is needed. Ok, so where do you find patterns for cross blocks (besides boring ones)? You can’t. So I am asking the girls to make up their own.

This is the block that I have designed…

The rough draft (very rough)

and here is my block after being drawn out in EQ6…

Here is my Diagram and Paper Piecing Foundations…

Designing the Block and Foundations Pieces was really fun :)

Here are my block pieces…

oops, I forgot to take pictures of all the block pieces I had after getting them sewn and cut out…there were about 22 pieces all together.

here is the back of the block after sewing the pieces together…

here it is the front (paper still on)

DSC_0689

and here it is after removing the paper, starched and pressed (It got a little stretched from removing the paper) But over all I am very pleased. It is the 1st time I have ever designed something myself, so I am just thrilled that it came out and it looks the way I had imagined it would :)

DSC_0690

I am going to make a few more sample blocks too :) The next ones will be a little simpler!

More goodies :)

More of the fabric I order for my birthday arrived today. This one is a kit. I have never bought a kit before, but when I saw this one I HAD to have it! This is a Christmas quilt using Merry and Bright fabrics. I know that Christmas has pasted, but I never think to make a Christmas quilt until it is too late (like now). So I decided I would get a head start. To be honest, waiting was a good thing, this kit was on sale so I saved money too :)

The pattern is called Through The Woods…

It came in this cute little bag :)

I am going to use this for my Round Robin block. I also bought a few other fat quarters to match the ones I bought the other day. I just love the polka dots :) So happy and fun. I think it will make a GREAT pinwheel block. I am going to ask the other 11 ladies to make fun pinwheel blocks to match. I think I am going to ask for polka dots and gingham. I am hoping to get a few EXTRA blocks to make another Quilt for Kids quilt :)

My Sewing Space…

I have been sewing for about 7 months, and just moved into this house 3 months ago. In that time I have been collecting lots of quilting paraphernalia. Of course, without a place to put it :) My stuff REALLY needed organized…so that is what I spent my Friday night doing :)
