Goodies

I have been collecting some goodies over the past few weeks and I thought I would share them with you.

DSC_0982First some fantastic new patterns…I LOVE getting new patterns, another form of sickness I guess :)

DSC_0974Jungle Jane pattern from Cherri House Quilts. I am going to make mine out of Frolic. I love the new Frolic line. I am also going to adapt the pattern and use Layer Cakes instead of yardage. So my quilt will be similar, but still the basic idea as hers.

DSC_0975Next we have MORE Frolic :) I couldn’t resist the new MBS quilt by Natalia over at Piece N Quilt. There was just something about it that made my heart skip a beat.

DSC_0978Here we have some Moda Jelly Rolls. They are Mill House Inn, Sorbet (my all time fav), and Recess. I have definite plans for the Sorbet and Recess, but still thinking about what to do with the Mill House Inn. The Mill House Inn was bought with a Gift Certificate I won from the CGQC drawing for February. Thanks Kelly :)

DSC_0980I saw this Layer Cake at http://store.jojosgiftshoppe.com for $17 and couldn’t resist. I love the colors and can not wait to use it :)

DSC_0976Friday before last, Amy and I attended the Greater Houston Shop Hop. I found several Fat Quarters to add to my ever expanding stack. I just love the polka dots and the yummy colors. I am still not sure what I will use these for, but I couldn’t resist. Any pattern suggestions for FQs??

DSC_0979 This yard of fabric was also purchased during the shop hop…LOVE IT!

DSC_0981 A few more FQs from the shop hop. A few of these were purchased and a few were gifts from the shops.

I also purchased 4 Recess Charm Packs. They are currently being turned into a Charm Square Quilt for my Grandmother. I am heading home with the kids after school is out and thought it would be a nice gift to have for her :)

Building Blocks

I joined a Quilting Bee and needed to come up with an idea for my quilt I want the ladies to make for me. My month is February and I need to be getting things ready so I can mail the packages out the last week of January. I am really excited about this Bee. I already made and sent Donna’s block (she was January). I thought it might be fun to take you on the journey of deciding on my block :)

First you need inspiration…

I knew the minute I saw these that this is what I wanted to do.

I collect crosses and have them all over my house…

Those are just the ones I have have out…there are several more that I haven’t found a place for since the move.

Can you see why I am choosing to have the GIRLS make me cross blocks???

So now the hard part…I need to decide on fabric and make a test block to see how much is needed. Ok, so where do you find patterns for cross blocks (besides boring ones)? You can’t. So I am asking the girls to make up their own.

This is the block that I have designed…

The rough draft (very rough)

and here is my block after being drawn out in EQ6…

Here is my Diagram and Paper Piecing Foundations…

Designing the Block and Foundations Pieces was really fun :)

Here are my block pieces…

oops, I forgot to take pictures of all the block pieces I had after getting them sewn and cut out…there were about 22 pieces all together.

here is the back of the block after sewing the pieces together…

here it is the front (paper still on)

and here it is after removing the paper, starched and pressed (It got a little stretched from removing the paper) But over all I am very pleased. It is the 1st time I have ever designed something myself, so I am just thrilled that it came out and it looks the way I had imagined it would :)

I am going to make a few more sample blocks too :) The next ones will be a little simpler!

New goodies!

I made a trip to the Quilt Shop today and look at the new goodies that came home with me...

The cutest bag pattern.

This Jelly Roll is Candy Kisses by Moda. I love it. The darker pink and red fabric is also from the Candy Kisses line. I am going to make a quilt with this fabric and I love the fabric so much I am going back to buy another Jelly Roll to use to make my bag. I will have enough to make 2 bags and have some left over...now what to do with the left overs??? I think I will make a strip of blocks to add to the backing of my quilt...maybe! LOL
