Video Coercions

My middle son, Hunter, is turning 14 this Friday. I just can’t believe he is going to be 14! I can still remember the day he was born like it was yesterday (some things I guess you never forget). Anyway, like I said, he turns 14 on Friday. He is a very friendly and social young man. He always wants to be doing something with his friends. This year he realized his B-day was on a Friday night and informed me he wants to spend the night with his buddy…ON HIS BIRTHDAY! I said WHAT???? Birthdays are family occasions. We DO NOT sleep over at other peoples houses on our birthdays. Birthdays are special days spent with your family (we have traditions that we follow every year). I told him that B-days are special days for mother’s too. I also told him that he was 14 and didn’t have many more B-days at home and that makes me sad. I don’t want to be cheated out of even one :) He protested for a few minutes, and then I brought out the I gave you life and do I need to break out the video of your birth to remind you why I deserve to have you home with me on your B-day?? That was all it took. He gave me a great big hug and said “I love you MOM, please, please, please don't get out the video. I would be more that happy to stay home and spend the evening with you.”
HA HA, I always knew that video would come in handy!
I love you Hunter :)

Yeah, well they learn. My son is torn over a trip to Alaska this summer because it falls over MY birthday and he doesn't want to be away from me for that. :D
