I’m having a Giveaway!

It has officially been a year since my family and I uploaded everything and moved to Houston. For the most part it has been a good thing although we still miss the family and friends that we had to leave behind :(
Also, my DQS9 partner received her doll quilt this morning and loved it! I made 3 matching doll quilts. One for my DQS9 partner, one for me, and one to give away on my blog. I have been planning this from the beginning, but wanted my partner to receive  her quilt before I started the giveaway. Today seems to be the perfect day to start!
I am working on the binding as we speak, but promise it will be finished by the time the drawing is over!DSC_0209
(sorry about the crappy picture…camera and lighting are not my friends today)
The signups will last until September 5th. There are 4 chances to win…
1-Leave a comment telling me about a favorite package that you received in swap or bee. Or a surprise that you have received in the mail.
2-Leave a comment telling me about a move that you have experienced…were you scared? Did it turn out well? Did you end up staying or moving back? If you have lived in the same place all your life leave a comment saying so.
3-Become a follower and then leave a comment letting me know. If you are already a follower let me know.
4-Post about my giveaway on your blog. Come back and comment with the link to the post.
That’s it. Sounds simple enough.
Good luck. I am excited to find this quilt a new home :)

DISCLAIMER:  Please make sure that you have your email enabled in your profile OR leave your email in your comments. I have to have a way to get in touch with you if you win. If I draw your name and I can not reach you, then I will have to draw again.

I've moved quite a lot (my husband and I were in the military), but the biggest move, by far was when we out (of the military) and moved with our then almost 2 y/o, from my husband's home town of St. Louis to my home town of Seattle. Oh, and I was also 6 months pregnant! It was SO hard leaving his family and we still miss them everyday. And it has been a HUGE adjustment living around my family again after having been gone so long. It's been almost 2 years now...I can't believe it's been so long!! But we're happy and healthy and have amazing people who support and love us, and are blessed to have 2 places in this world that we feel comfortable enough to still call home.

I follow you and that quilt is so cute!

I've received some pretty awesome stuff in swaps so I'm hard pressed to pick just one! Christine and Amy sent fantastic ALFALC swaps and I've received three mini quilts that are great! I'm a lucky girl!

Yeah, I've moved 17 times (90% of them are NOT military moves) so it seems normal to me! I get twitchy after 3 or 4 years and want to move! :)

Hope I win! :)

The only good mail I get is my Better Homes and Garden magazine and the Ikea catalog. Oh...and Pottery Barn...especially the kids. A bit obsessed with getting ideas from catalogs....hey, they're free! :)

My favorite package from a swap included a key chain the sender had made me. I still have it attached to my scissors handle to remind me of her.

I move to a small town of 300 right after college and it was so small compared to being in my college town. It was 2 hours to the nearest big town, so I didn't get to go there very often. I was so isolated. When I met my husband, I moved to a bigger city to be near him and I'm so glad I did. I love the small town and will always remember it, but I like having stores to shop in and not having to buy groceries a month at a time.

My favorite thing that I've received was a win from Bobbi in Las Vegas...a very cute black and white dresden plate pot holder.

Suburban Stitcher said...

I live in Richmond, TX (Houston suburb!) and it was a great move. My husband and I moved here after college and before kids, and it was the first thing that was just ours. No family...just us. I think that it made our relationship strong from the very start!

i'm a follower...have been foreva! Oh, and even though the quilt will just be across town...I can still win, right!?!

Hmmm...I guess the best surprise I received in the mail was actually with a giveaway I'd won, and she tucked in some *very* fun extras that I enjoyed immensely! :)

I was in the service, so I've moved around a lot, but the biggest move came when I re-married in '96. Since I was living in Maryland and my new hubby lived in Alabama (we met online), one of us had to move...and it wasn't him! I miss being near sisters and parents, but I've loved raising our kids in the South and adapting to this new culture (LOL!) and I wouldn't have traded it for anything; my gain was a wonderful, wonderful husband!

Hi Rene, I'm new to your blog. I received a beautiful hand quilted pumpkin quilt last fall in a doll quilt swap. I was so excited to receive such a treasure. Thanks for the chance to win your adorable quilt.

Kim D. said...

We moved out of state and I cried for two weeks before we left. It's hard moving away from family and friends when you've spent half your life with them. It all worked out in the end, but I miss my quilt time spent with my sister.

I just became a follower. Thanks again.

Hi Rene, I enjoy your blog and seeing what quilty projects you are working on. My favorite package that I recently received was a surprise from my best friend of some fabric and a pattern to make a little quilted wallet.

#2 a moving experience...My entire life I have lived within 2 hours of where I currently live. So no big, dramatic experiences. My favorite move though was 12 years ago from our apartment to our first house!

About 12 years ago, I moved from San Jose, CA to Southeast Arkansas and I am so happy to say it's been one of the best decisions I've made. I love it here! (even though I'm located 2 hours south (& north) of a 'big' city...lol!)

The quilt is tooo cute! I always wanted to make a Joseph's Coat quilt...but as I couldn't find heat resistant template plastic in my neck of the wood it's still on my ever growing want-to-make-someday-list...

I have to admit I moved just once in my life - when I left home...I'm quite a 'rooted' person...when I think of moving I first think of all the possibilities...after a few seconds, the fear set in and I don't think I will ever be able to make new friends....I know, I'm a weirdo...and a scaredy cat ;o).

I have a super gorgeous pillow on my couch thanks to a swap. :)

I literally moved across the world only to move back home (lived in Taiwan for a year). I miss the old town I lived in... the place I met my husband. I now live about 1 1/2 miles from my childhood home. That wasn't my original plan.

It takes me a long time to adjust to moves.

My best gift received was a LUSH gift set. I told the husband that I would much rather receive LUSH stuff than flowers, because you actually can USE them and not just look at them. They were a fantastic surprise gift shortly after he left for deployment!

I have been a follower for a while! That mini is super adorable!

Also, the hubby is in the military, so I have moved four times in the last five years. I am a pro....its not so bad once you get used to it. I actually dislike our current city, so I am anxiously awaiting our next move!

I think I must have that. I just had my first girl (after three boys) and my MIL made her a quilt using the exact same materials you used in this one! They must be together in her room! I recieved so many fun surprises in the mail after having my girl. Favorite was a blanket from a dear old friend.

...and, we have moved. Away from my husband's hometown, back to mine. We love it and think we are here to stay!

Has it been a year already? I know time flies but gee whiz! LOL My favorite package to receive was the first quilt Laurie made me after John's accident. Nothing will ever compare to that!

I suppose our most interesting move was when I was 8-1/2 months pregnant with Brian! Every time I picked up a box everyone yelled at me because they thought I was going to give birth then and there! LOL

I've always followed your blog in my Google Reader but I'll become an official one as soon as I'm done with this comment! Thanks for the chance to win your beautiful little quilt! :0)

I've kind of lived in one place my whole life except for college. I kind of want to move just to push myself out of my comfort zone but it hasn't come to pass yet. We'll see. I'm glad you're here though!

My fabric package was a wall hanging that a friend sent to me as a surprise.

The one big move I ever made was leaving home to go to University and it was one of mixed emotions because I was excited but very nervous. Funny how you just never forget these big events and that was many years ago!

Mail box surprises are wonderful and I have had a few but the most memorable one was a beautiful stone carving from my sister who lived in the Arctic, the parcel weighed a tonne.

I haven't participated i na bee or swap but I just got the best surprise in the mail yesterday! My ordered me a bunch of stuff from Rob Ryan's etsy shop. He is a papercutter based out of London and one of my favorite contemporary artists!!

I had to move to Waco, TX a couple of years ago for grad school. I was so excited for school but terrified of moving to Waco. Being from huge Houston the thought of living in tiny Waco was suffocating. In the end the friends I made in school made it fun while I was there but I was definitely ready to leave once graduation came!

PS. I love this mini quilt! And it was so beautiful when I saw it in person at the meeting! I would love to hang it on my wall!

Oh my gosh I love this quilt!!

We moved to Denver from Utah during a major snow storm and what should have been an 8 hour drive turned into 16 hours dodging road closures driving 20 miles an hour.

It was soo fun to discover who she was!

we have moved twice because of my husbands job. Both times we really HATED to move... all the hassles of packing, organizing, selling the house, etc... leaving friends behind... kids changing schools. But, after the first year of settling into the new home and making new friends we adjusted and saw that the new place was just as good if not better than the old. Change and the unknown is scary, but I've discovered that most things work out they way they are supposed to if you just give yourself time to adjust to the new situation.

I made a move cross country and back. The move back was the best decision I ever made for a move. I moved in with my parents at my father's request. After decades of living on my own, I worried. A few years later, my father had a stroke and I was there to help my parents. That time together with both my parents drew us much closer together. Sometimes things are meant to be.

Your quilt is really pretty.
The last package I received is always the one that I like the best. Today it was some fabric ordered online. My mother loves it too. mlwright29 (at) hotmail (dot) com

One of the best surprises I ever received in the mail was from my dear SIL! I was about to participate in a 3 day, 60 mile walk for Breast Cancer and she sent me a goody bag full of useful things like chapstick, foot balm, sunscreen, wet wipes, etc. all in pink for the walk!

Just out of college, I moved from a little town in Alabama to Boston with a girlfriend. It was exciting and frightening at the same time. Before this I had always lived at home. I stayed in Boston for several years, met my husband there and then we moved back to Alabama. All around, it was a great experience.

my best surpise in the mail was a fellow bee member who sent the greatest tiny journal with the blocks she made for me. it has a gorgeous peacock on the front, and i just adore it.

i've moved a lot, though crtainly not as much as kelly! after i had practiced law for a while in houston, after having lived in texas for all but a short year-long stint in new orleans, i decided to go back to business school and to move to chapel hill, nc. it was a little weird since i didn't know anyone there, but i loved NC, even though i moved back to houston afterward.

i've loved sewing it seems like forever. I've been wanting to make a patch quilt for quite awhile. So last week got 4,000 2 inch squares. And going to make a quilt with them. I do have other quilts on the table to make. I just have not come up with a pattern that I like. That would be my log cabin quilt. I also do crafts rosebud topiary trees, wreaths. All done with rosebuds.

woohoo i finally found a blogger from houston! your quilt is so pretty. i think the best surprise i got in the mail was from teaginny. she was giving away her little scraps so i could make my own ticker tape quilt. i went through each little piece and recognized most of the designer pieces ive been coveting online.

im new to sewing and have yet to make a full sized quilt yet...just been making a bunch of bags and more bags.

thanks for the giveaway!

I received a great little surprise gift in the mail this week. It's a tiny little 3" vase. The card on it reads "For short stemmed flowers your child will bring home". It's from my dearest friend, who always gives me the perfect gift of friendship! (Also the vase is a perfect gift, as my 2 year old son's last flower he tried to give me, ended up being his "pogo stick". Don't ask!

My best move was during the worst weather. On my own with my trusty beagle. I left in front of a HUGE snow storm. 4 hours later I'm at my destination. It snowed so hard, I couldn't return the moving truck for 3 days. It was great unpacking boxes while being snowed in! The only casuality were my lips that were so chapped they peeling for a week!

The best move I had was 23 years ago and I didn't think it was at the time. But now I know this is where God wanted us to be. Moved from outside OKC to outside Nashville.

There have been so many favorite packages over the years. The past year or so has been quilting "stuff" from my sister in OK. Since I am still new at quilting.

I became a follower. I found you on Flicker because of the Joseph's Coat block. I sooo love it and I want to make one someday.

I don't know if I will ever have a blog. I enjoy reading them, but I don't think bloging is my thing.
