Quilting is Done

Today I took a trip to Joann’s to buy some fabric to back and bind my Recess quilt. I decided to go with navy flannel for the back because I have seen (and felt) several quilts that have been backed with flannel and LOVED how soft and cozy they were. I came home and got my quilt sandwiched and ready to quilt. This evening I decided to go ahead and get the quilting done. Here it is. I still need to bind it. Having second thoughts about the fabric I bought for that. I got red and am not sure now…would love some opinions :)

To say that I LOVE this quilt would be an understatement. It turned out better than I had imagined in my head. I know that it is a super simple BUT I don’t care I LOVE IT!!!

I used Recess and it is about 54 inches square right now.

This quilt is for my Grandmother. It will be a Mother’s Day gift from me and the boys. My Mother passed away when I was a baby and she was my Grandparents only child. Mother’s Day is bitter sweet for her. My Grandmother is getting old and her health isn’t very good. I really wanted to do something special for her this year. I know that it will really warm her heart.

This quilt was inspired by a quilt that my Great Grandmother made for me when I was little. I will try to take a pic of it and post it in a day or two.

P.S.

This will be the 1st quilt that will be given to someone outside of our house (although it is still going to family). Up until now I have had a very hard time parting with the quilts. I still have a hard time. I really want to keep this, but I knew when I was making it that it would be leaving. I made sure to tell my hubby that it was for my Grandmother that way I couldn’t back out :)

It looks GREAT!! I have admired that fabric many times. I'll bet that your Grandmother will love it. I think RED would be a great binding unless you had a dot or check. Nice job on the quilting. :D

Oh I love it! I made one exactly the same style and quilting too for my sister for her graduation present. She doesn't know that yet lol! I used 2 layer cakes so it'll fit her bed but I even quilted to either side of the square like you!

Great minds think alike :)

Isn't it funny how sometimes a very simple pattern can just catch our eye?

I'm playing catch up on blogs since we've had company staying with us. I haven't been on blogs since the fifth.

She will love it! How do you feel about the flannel? Did I get you hooked? lol

I think red would look fine, I would have to see a picture of it to be sure but Im sure whatever you choose is fine since you have awesome taste! Make sure you take a picture of her face when she opens it! This is an awesome mothers day present!

Very nice quilt made from the heart. This is a quilt,My Husband says all those fancy ones aren't quilts. When we were little they were just like this one you made. I made him just like yours and he loves it.
My grandmother raised me from when I was 3 months old. My real parents gave me too her for some reason. They kept my sisters and brother.

She was my grandma, mother and my best friend. She is gone now but never forgotten either.

oh, it's just lovely, and the flannel will be sooooo soft on the back! the red for the binding should be just fine, too. i've always had the opposite problem from you - i always give my quilts away and never keep any. the only one i have kept is the very first one i made. mark is after me to make one for our bed. i've been collecting fabrics for it, but haven't decided on a pattern yet.
